Cordillera Escalera mountain range: in Peru’s rainforest

Only 45 minutes away from the city of Tarapoto, San Martín Region, Bosque Guardián’s located in the Tiraco river valley, in an Amazonian cloud forest that is permanently recovering from cattle farming, tree cutting, and other human destructions.

The forest’s regeneration started in 2005, when the Cordillera Escalera regional conservation area was created. Its 150,000 hectares protect the ancestral territories of the Shawi, Awajun, and Kichwa cultures, along with its bountiful landscapes, plants, and animal wildlife: a great ecosystem undergoing recovery.

The area protected by Bosque Guardián preserves nature and promotes its exploration through the strengthening of local economies: scientific research, bird-watching and the observation of other animals; art and other fascinating activities that provide insight on this part of the Amazon.
